CHATTOGRAM, Sept 02: Mohammad Yunus, who was appointed as the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman just four months ago, has been removed from his position. Engineer Md. Nurul Karim has been appointed as the new Chairman of CDA.
The decision was communicated through an official notification issued by Kaniz Fatima, Deputy Secretary of the Contracts and Foreign Recruitment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Monday.
According to the notification, the remaining tenure of Mohammad Yunus's appointment has been cancelled. Engineer Md. Nurul Karim will take over the charge of the Chairman of the CDA, as per Section-7 of the CDA Act, 2018. His appointment is for a period of three years, effective from the date of his joining. It is stipulated that Nurul Karim must sever all working relationships with other institutions and organisations to assume this role.
The terms of his appointment will be determined by an approved contract, with the order taking immediate effect in the public interest.
Mohammad Yunus, an Awami League leader and freedom fighter, was appointed as the CDA Chairman on April 24 for a three-year term. However, his tenure has been cut short after just four months, leading to the new appointment.
Engineer Md. Nurul Karim, the newly appointed chairman, is a native of Chattogram. He hails from Narayanahat Sailakupa village in Fatikchari upazila. His extensive background in engineering and ties to the local community are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the CDA's development initiatives.
