CEC among 23 sued for ‘vote rigging with EVM’ in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 11: A Jubo League leader has filed a case accusing 23 people including the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) for rigging vote by the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Chattogram.
The plaintiff named Nasir Uddin is a member of Hathazari Upazila Jubo League. He was the rebel candidate of Awami League in Farhadabad Union Parishad poll in the ninth phase of Union Parishad polls.
The case was filed with the court of Chattogram First Senior Assistant Judge Israt Jahan Nasrin on Wednesday. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, Secretary of Local Government Ministry Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Election Commission Secretary Humayun Kabir Khondkar, Regional Election Officer Hasanuzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Md. Mominur Rahman, senior district election officer Ataur Rahman were accused in the case among the 23 people.
Confirming the filing of the case, the plaintiff's lawyer Hasan Ali Chowdhury said, "Despite receiving more votes than the Awami League candidate in the Farhadabad Union Parishad poll, the election officer declared the plaintiff defeated by displaying wrong results through EVMs for not keeping the wrongful demands."
