CEC finds no complaints of vote rigging

FE Report | Wednesday, 29 April 2015

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has urged all to accept the election results to advance democratic spirit further on.
"I did not receive any complaints of vote rigging or irregularities from any candidate or their agents, but there were some unwanted incidents. Everybody should accept the election result," he said.
Asked about BNP's boycott of election, he replied: "This is not a party election. So it is not our concern at all if any political party boycotts election."
"We did not receive any formal application of boycott from any candidate, he said."
The CEC was speaking at a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
He said he also did not find any irregularities while visiting some polling centres in the city and thanked all for helping him hold a 'free and fair' election.
"No voters complained of any irregularities. None faced any threats on their way to cast votes," he said replying to a question on voters' obstruction to go to poll centres.
He said, "We have been receiving many allegations since last two days. Whenever we received any allegation, the EC looked into it." "If any allegation was found true, the EC took action, he added."
He claimed that he had found proof of presence of a large number of voters in the polling centres.
Replying to a question as to why army was not deployed even after many unwanted incidents, he said, "We said army only will be deployed if the situation goes out of control. The situation has not gone that far."
"There is a clear difference between 'unwanted discrete incidents' and 'uncontrollable situation', he said.
Replying to a question on obstruction of newsmen in polling centres, he asked reporters to complain in writing. Then the EC will take action.
"But voting is complete," reporters argued.
He replied, "We can still take action."
He said, "Counting is still on. After counting we will speak on that."
