CEC hands over report on political dialogue to President

A delegation of the Election Commission (EC) led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda handed over Wednesday a report on the recently-held dialogue between the EC and the political parties to President Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban, reports UNB.

Election commissioners Mohammad Sohul Hossain and M Sakhawat Hossain accompanied the CEC.

After handing over the report, the EC delegation also apprised the President of different aspects of the dialogue and its outcome as well as the EC's preparation for holding of general elections by December this year.

The President praised the EC's performance in preparing the important report within a very short time.

He also expressed the hope that the EC could hold the national election by December this year according to the roadmap announced by the Commission.

Emerging from the meeting, the CEC told the journalists that they handed over the report on the recent dialogue they held with the country's political parties to the President aimed at reforming electoral laws and holding of general election by December this year in a free, fair and credible manner.

He said that they told the President that the EC was firmly hopeful to publish the final electoral roll with photographs by October this year, as the 95 per cent of the voters in the country have already been enrolled.

"The EC delegation also apprised the President of the EC's preparation for holding of the next general election by December this year," Dr Huda added.

Military Secretary to the President Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam and Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were also present.
