CEC warns of action against troublemakers

FE Report | Sunday, 30 December 2018

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) warned on Saturday of punitive action against any attempt to drive away polling agents by rivals from centres.
The nation goes to the 11th parliament polls today.
"It's unwarranted to harass candidates' agents during voting," CEC KM
Nurul Huda said at a briefing at Agargaon Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
He said polling agents could not be arrested if there is no any criminal case against them.
The CEC directed security forces to take action against violence and subversive acts during the election.
"I directed the law-enforcement agencies to stay alert so that no incidents of violence happen," he stated.
Mr Huda, however, warned of taking legal action if any untoward incident happens due to negligence on part of any security personnel.
He termed this year's election historic with the participation of all political parties in the race.
Meanwhile, all election materials, including ballot boxes and papers were already sent to all returning officers, according to the commission.
