cellbazar.com, a leading online marketplace in Bangladesh, has been renamed as "ekhanei.com", which will be formally launched in next week.
Formerly owned by Telenor Group, the company will now be run under a joint venture (JV) partnering with another Norwegian company, its top official said.
"We want to spread our services across the whole country. As part of the initiative, we have chosen the local name -- ekhanei.com. Details about the new move and the JV will be formally disclosed at a press conference at a city hotel in next week," Arild Klokkerhaug, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, told the FE Thursday.
The initiative to run the country's oldest online marketplace under a JV was taken this year, Mr Arild said.
Services under the JV have already been started Tuesday last from its renamed website -- ekhanei.com .
The cellbazar began providing services in 2006 as an innovative SMS service. Its e-commerce website has been in operation since 2007, according to the new website.
Service of ekhanei.com allows anyone in Bangladesh to buy and sell in their region conveniently in a very simple manner without registration and complicated procedures.
It is completely free to post an ad on ekhanei.com.
Country's other leading online market places are: bikroy.com and olx.com.bd?.
