NILPHAMARI, Sept 23: There prevails a huge demand of Boropukuria fly ash in the cement factories across the country, but prolonged delay in formulating the modalities to sell it frustrated them. The government is also losing revenue worth nearly 300 million Taka due to wastage of huge quantities of fly ash at Boropukuria coal mine project. Sources said the government has not yet finalised the sale modalities of the stockpiled fly ash lying unused there since the inception of the electricity generation project near the coal mine, whereas cement factories in the country are eagerly waiting to use the fly ash in their factories as it is an important component for making cement.
The sources added the electricity generation project near the coal mine produces 300 tonnes of fly ash everyday by burning 2400 tonnes of coal. The approximate price of fly ash ranges between Taka 500 and Taka 700 per tonne. At present cement factories are importing fly ash from neighbouring India at the cost of valuable foreign currency. Importing fly ash from India is very expensive as the carrying cost is very high.
