Cement laden vessel sinks in Jamuna

PABNA, Apr 24: A cement laden vessel sank at Natokhola point of Jamuna river Thursday evening. At least one thousand two hundred bags of cement worth about Tk. 5 lakh fell into the river sources said. The recover drive started a day later, sources added. Police and the local sources said that an engine boat loaded with 1,200 bags of cement from Aricha port was coming to the Nagarbari port on Thursday afternoon. When the vessel reached at Khanpura point near the port a storm broke out that saink the boat. Puran Bharenga union UP Chairma Rafikul Islam, also the president of Nagarbari Traders Association, said that the cement loaded vessel was coming to Nagarbari cement warehouse from Aricha port. At least 11 boatmen of the ill-fated boat jumped into the river and managed to reach the river bank by swimming, Rafik said, but the vessel went under the Jamuna river. When talked the officer in charge of Bera police station Sheikh Zillur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that the drives started to recover the boat.
