Centenarian undergoes primary coronary angioplasty in Khulna

The Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Khulna created history by performing a primary angioplasty on a 100 years old female on Monday last, says a press release.
The patient identified as Kulchum Begum, is now in good condition. According to available records, she is the oldest woman in Bangladesh and probably in South Asia to successfully undergo such a kind of manipulation.
Earlier on the same day the patient with acute heart attack was brought to the hospital by her 76 years old daughter. Doctors of the hospital without any delay took her to the cathlab and performed the primary angioplasty.
A senior cardiologist of Bangladesh Dr Husnayen Nanna along with Dr Abdullah Manjur and Dr Mahbubul Haque performed the extraordinary procedure.
Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, a concern of AFC Health Ltd of Bangladesh, started its operation on December 18 last year to provide quality cardiac healthcare services, especially to the people of the southern region of the country. The hospital is being run with technical assistance from India's Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
