Centenary of Chinese Revolution

Saturday, 12 November 2011

Nehal Adil The Chinese Imperial government was serving as a stooge of the Anglo-Saxon powers and their ally the Czarist Russia. One can not ignore that the Chinese Revolution took place six years before the Russian Revolution that overthrew the imperial monarchy of Russia. This year both Peoples Republic of China (Beijing) and Republic of China (Taipei) are celebrating the centenary of the Great Chinese Revolution under the leadership of Asia's immortal hero Sun Yat Sen, that overthrew the Chinese Imperial monarchy. Both Beijing and Taipei hold the view that China is one and indivisible. This was recognised in the joint communiqué of Peoples Republic of China and US that set the conditions for diplomatic relations between the two countries. We salute the great Chinese People in the great Centenary of their Revolution. This heralded new dawn in the anti-colonial struggle. It inspired the national liberation forces of India and upheaval in the so-called dark continent of Africa. The working class of USA and Russia provided exemplary support to the Chinese Revolution because in it, they saw the seed of their own emancipation. The Japanese imperial monarchy was not overthrown, because the Japanese Emperor shared the anti-Western aspirations of the Japanese armed forces. But it was unfortunately diverted against China and other Asian countries. This historic contradiction helped the position of the Western imperialist forces in Asia under Mao-Tsetung. The Chinese Communist Party made the historic long march when their popular front strategy brought annihilation and failure. Ultimately the Communist Party succeeded in capturing power in 1949 with the support of the Great Soviet Communist Party. The Kuomintang government fled to the island of Taiwan with Taipei as its capital. Today Peoples Republic of China has a population of 1340 millions whereas Taiwan has a population of only 20 million. But both the countries are recently trying to improve the relations on the basis of sovereign equality. Peoples Republic of China is the biggest trading partner of Taiwan. Taiwan is the biggest foreign investor in the Peoples Republic of China. It is the American infringement in the internal affair of China that has brought the animosity between the two entities. The recent American decision to sell advanced weapon system to Taiwan has complicated this process. China claims its relation with Taiwan is solely its internal affair and no outside power should poke its nose in it. In the fifties of last century Beijing fought bloody skirmishes over Quemoy and Matsu at the height of the cold war. USA threatened to use nuclear weapons. But in the sixties China developed its own nuclear weapons and USA softened its stand on the rhetoric of nonproliferation the similar to one that it uses against Iran. History has shown USA respects only the powerful. Its nuclear non-proliferation is a racist dogma against the non-white nations. After China broke it, India and Pakistan successfully followed. Peoples Republic of China has declared, it will never be first to use nuclear weapon against any country. It will desist to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states - especially Taiwan and Japan. It is a great step towards elimination of nuclear weapons. Many feel the improvement of relations between the two Chinas and possible eventual re-unification could be a great lesson for South Asia. The Kuomintang and the Communist Party had the same origin in the anti-monarchic revolution under Sun Yatsen. Their cadres fought together in overthrowing the imperial monarchy. Only the split in the Kuomintang created the Communist Party of China. The same way the Congress and the Muslim League that created independent India and Pakistan could go to a common past. Both Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Mohandas Gandhi were followers of Dada Bhai Naoroji. It was Muhammad Ali Jinnah who had invited Gandhi to come back to India to lead the nationalist movement. Jinnah, Liaqat Ali Khan, Zafrullah Khan, AK Fazlul Huq, Hussein Shahid Suhrawardy and Maulana Bhashani once belonged to the Indian National Congress and worked closely with leaders like Moti Lal Nehru and Chitta Ranjan Das. When United Pakistan was in crisis, contrary to popular belief India did not try to aggravate it and tried to save the situation for ten months. It was Pakistani military junta advised by a super power abroad brought its doom by directly attacking India. Contrary to the propaganda China did not jump itself in this war. China has always pleaded that South Asian nations should settle their dispute peacefully, develop their mutual trade and commerce and engage themselves in development activities. The improved relations between Beijing and Taipei should inspire Delhi and Islamabad to come closer. That will create a new dimension in world history.
