Central locomotive workshop at Parbatipur not fully utilised

NILPHAMARI, Sept 26: The central locomotive workshop at Parbatipur remains underutilised for years due to proper policy support of the concern policy makers.
The design capacity of the workshop is heavy repairing of 120 locomotives per year and to make 40 per cent spare parts that it needs to be used there.
Sources said even until today, no step has been taken to make the much needed spare parts in the workshop. The machinery department is purchasing spares from within and outside the country.
Sources added that for the scheduled repairs and maintenance of the locomotives the workshop was established in 1992 near Parbatipur railway junction in Dinajpur at a cost of Tk 203 crore with foreign assistance. The plant is equipped with high quality machineries.
If proper steps are taken the workshop could play a vital role in the national economy.
