Chandpur villagers demand dam to stop erosion

CHANDPUR, Aug 17: A human chain was formed yesterday at Ishanbala of Nilkomol union in Haimchar Upazila by the erosion-affected people near the Ishanbala Launch ghat area.
Men, women and children joined the human chain with banner.
Local UP Chairman Saud Al Nasser , teacher Nuruzzaman Sikder, UP member Khalil Matobbar, Abul Kalam Berpari, Abdul Jabber, Bachchu Peda, Shahida Begum, Al Amin Howlader spoke at the human chain.
The speakers said that due to non-stop erosion by the Meghna, almost all areas of the four wards of the union are being devoured by the river rendering many families homeless in Nilkomol union. Trees and crop lands were also eaten up by the river.
The villagers demanded immediate
steps to save Eashanbala and Nilkomol unions from further erosion. They also demanded permanent dam along the vulnerable points.
