\\\'Channel 16\\\' off air in Bangladesh

The information ministry has ordered private television station ‘Channel 16’ off the air in Bangladesh. Reportedly owned by Insight Telecast Company Limited, the channel aired programmes from abroad through a downlink. However, government permission to air programmes ended on November 30 last year and it was not renewed, the information ministry order issued on Tuesday said. The order has been sent to home ministry and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), among others. It requested authorities to take ‘effective steps’ to ensure that the channel was not telecast, according to a news agency.
