Char dwellers get tube-wells from SKS Foundation

GAIBANDHA, Jan 10 (BSS): Twenty ultra poor families living in different chars under Urya Union of Fulchhari Upazila in the district got free tube-wells from a local organization Sunday.
With the financial support of Islamic Relief Worldwide and European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, SKS Foundation, a local organization, distributed the tube wells to the char dwellers under a project- `Disaster Resilient Future:
Mobilizing Communities and Institution for Effective Risk Reduction Initiatives'.
A simple function was also held on the union parishad (UP) premises of the upazila at noon with UP Chairman Abdul Hamid in the chair while UNO Mehidi-ul-Sahid addressed the ceremony as the chief guest.
Project Manager Abdus Samad discussed objectives of the project elaborately and said the project was being implemented for the people of disaster prone areas of Fulchhari and Saghata upazilas to reduce the loss of lives of human beings and livestock.
Local UNO distributed 20 tube-wells to the beneficiary families. Earlier, the UNO visited the Madhya Urya Char to witness the ongoing homestead raising activities of the project and expressed his satisfaction over the work.
A good number of people including char dwellers, public representatives, local elite and NGO activists were present on the occasion.
