Charge hearing against Fakhrul, 24 others Nov 3

A Dhaka court has fixed November 3 for hearing on charge framing against 25 BNP leaders including its acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a case filed for obstructing police from discharging their duties. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate SM Masud Zaman fixed the date on Tuesday afternoon when Sanaullah Miah, counsel of Mirza Alamgir, sought time. Mirza Alamgir, who was released on bail granted by the apex court and left for the United States on Monday to receive medical treatment, faces a slue of cases, including vandalism, filed with different police stations in Dhaka. He was arrested in February.
According to the prosecution, on December 12, 2012, some 30/40 BNP-Jammat men obstructed police from discharging their duties and showering brick-bats towards the pedestrians, leaving them injured. Following this, Sub-inspector of Kolabagan Police Station M Masud Shikdar filed a case against the BNP leaders. On 20 October, 2014, another SI of Kolabagan Police Station submitted charge sheet against 25 BNP leaders including Mirza Alamgir, according to a news agency.
