Sunday, 10 August 2014

A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the hearing on charge framing against 111 BNP leaders, including the party’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in three separate cases. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiya fixed the dates when lawyers for the BNP leaders submitted petitions seeking time. The court fixed September 2 for next hearing to frame charges against 26 BNP leaders in a case filed with Shahjahanpur Police Station while September 3 for framing charges against 44 BNP leaders in another case filed with Paltan Police Station. Mirza Alamgir was named the accused in both cases. The court also fixed August 24 for framing charges against 41 BNP leaders including Barrister Maudud Ahmed in a case filed with Paltan Police Station. Meanwhile, the court issued arrest warrants against 12 BNP leaders including its student affairs’ secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie as they were not present in the court. All of them were named accused in all the three cases, according to UNB.
