Charges framed against Khoka for amassing Tk 97.6m

A Dhaka court has framed charges against former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Sadeque Hossain Khoka in a case file over 6 ears ago by the ACC for amassing wealth beyond his known sources. Khoka, who at present is staying in the USA for treatment, submitted a petition through his lawyer in the Senior Special Judge’s Court, Dhaka, seeking bail on Thursday morning. Judge Md Zahirul Haque rejected Khoka’s bail prayer saying the trial will run in absence of the accused. The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Khoka, also a leader of Dhaka city unit of BNP, for amassing wealth worth Tk 97.6m (9.76 crore) illegally and concealing information to anti-graft watchdog on July 2 in 2008, according to a news agency.
