Charges pressed against 8 in Rajib murder case

Police have pressed charges against eight people, including the chief of a radical organisation in Ganajagaran Mancha activist Ahmed Rajib Haider killing case. Detective Branch Inspector Nibaran Chandra Barman submitted the chargesheet at the court of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Tuesday afternoon, nearly a year after Rajib was stabbed to death in the city. Seven students of North South University (NSU) are among the charge-sheeted accused. They are ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ chief Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani and the seven other charge-sheeted accused are NSU students Faisal Bin Nayeem, alias Deep, 22, Maksudul Hassan Anik, 26, Ehsan Reza Rumman, 23, Nayeem Sikder Irad, 19, Nafis Imtiaz, 22, Sadman Yasir Mahmud, 20, and Rezwanul Azad Rana. Rana, a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, is absconding. The chargesheet submitted on Tuesday also pleaded for issuing an arrest warrant against him. Rajib, a blogger and an architect by profession, was hacked to death on Feb 15 last year, according to a news agency.
