'Chartered Secretaries Act to help dev good corporate governance'

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) Saturday said with the enactment of Chartered Secretaries Act, 2010, the economy of the country will develop through good corporate governance.
" It is a boost for the Chartered / Company Secretaries to render professional services in a more dedicated way," Mohammad Asad Ullah, president of ICSB said in a press conference in the city Saturday.
ICSB arranged the press conference to express its gratitude to the government for passing the much-awaited bill in the parliament June 7 last.
The ICSB chief said the enactment will pave the way for attracting more foreign investment, generate skilled human resource, ensure more transparency and accountability in the corporate management, ensure compliance with all statutory filings and regulatory disclosures and development of stock market.
"Instead of employment only, the coveted law also provides for Practicing Chartered Secretaries, who shall render professional secretarial services to the corporate sector, which will further add to the regulatory compliance. This will also promote secretarial advisory services, as distinct from those by the employed Company Secretaries, for the Board Secretariat of the willing companies," the ICSB leaders said.
They further said Chartered Secretaries Act,2010 will inject knowledge and bring discipline for the Board functioning, thereby ensuring management skills leading to ultimate better profitability of the corporate sector of the country.
"We, on behalf of all the members, students and other concerned, do express our deep gratitude to the present government, the Cabinet and all Members of the Parliament for passing the said Act," Mr Asad Ullah said.
NG Chakraborty, vice-president of ICSB and Md. Sanaullah, council member and former president of ICSMB also spoke on the occasion.
ICSB has now over 211 members and around 2000 students.
