Chatal workers passing hard days

NILPHAMARI, Jan 24: Nearly 10,000 chatal workers have remained jobless due to non-functioning of the husking mills in the district.
According to sources, there are 446 husking mills in the district and most of them become non-operational because the sky remained continuously cloudy for nearly 15 days.
Workers, of whom 80 per cent are women, are passing their days in hardship as they fail to earn their daily income.
On the other hand, the price of rice has gone up in the district due to non-functioning of the husking mills.
At present rice is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg, Tk 3.00 to Tk 4.00 more than that of the earlier, in the markets of the district.
