Check papers before renting flats to foreigners: DMP
Friday, 14 November 2014
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have asked house owners to check relevant papers before renting out flats to foreigners. Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam made the call on Friday. Addressing a press briefing, Alam said they have started a drive to detect foreigners staying illegally here. The DMP boss said they had seen instances where many foreigners came to Bangladesh on student or tourist visas and rented flats in posh areas. ‘They keep living in the country even after their visas expire, which is a serious offence.’ He said there had been many complaints of these foreigners getting involved in criminal activities. ‘The house owners have to be cautious so that the foreigners do not get involved in such activities. Before renting flats documents of the foreigners must be examined,’ he added, according to a news agency.
