Check violence and muggings

Sunday, 7 December 2008

INCIDENTS of mugging and snatching are occurring on a regular basis in some common places in the city. Muggers used to mug at certain points during the terms of elected governments as the police, on their part, used to keep their eyes shut for whatever reasons known to all. The trend slowed down when the caretaker government took charge. But it did not continue for long.
Of late, incidents of mugging and hijacking increased due possibly to slackness of the law enforcement agonies. With the election approaching and the state of emergency likely to be lifted soon, the hooligans will try to come back. The authorities also need to be alert against terror attacks. This worry should get the highest priority. No country seems to be free from the threat.
We expect the authorities to identify the flaws in law enforcement for urgent corrective steps.
