Tuesday, 12 October 2010

FE Report
Leaders of Bangladesh Chemical and Perfumery Merchants' Association have sought government intervention to stop harassment in the name of raid by taskforce and mobile court into chemical warehouses.
"The businessmen have largely followed the government's directive to shift all the 20 flammable chemicals from old Dhaka, but we are still subjected to harassment," Abdus Salam, president of Bangladesh Chemical and Perfumery Marchants' Association (BCPMA) said.
The businessmen are now in fear as the mobile court team is harassing them for the chemicals that are beyond the list of identified 20 items.
He also demanded inclusion of representatives from Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the sector in the taskforce and mobile court drive.
The association leaders made the demand in a meeting with Industries Minister Dilip Barua on Monday at his secretariat office in the city.
The minister assured the leaders that no businessmen would be harassed where no flammable chemicals belonging to the list of 20 will be found.
The 20 flammable chemicals are acetone, butyl acetate, isobutanol, DL-2575, ethyl acetate, ethanol, heavy aromatic, isopropyl alcohol, methanol, butanone, methyl iso-butyl ketone, n-propyl acetate, propyl alcohol, propylene glycol, flexo gravure, toluene, thinner b, reducer, xylene and di-acetone alcohol.
These chemicals are used in the garments, textile, wood polish, dyeing and plastic industries.
