Chevron celebrates 25 years in Bangladesh

Chevron Bangladesh, a subsidiary of the US oil major Chevron, has been given the approval for expansion of the Bibiyana gas-field with an additional 60 Square Kilometers "flank" area.
Senior secretary of the Energy Division Mahbub Hossain informed this while addressing the 25 years celebration of Chevron Bangladesh's operation in Bangladesh at a function at InterContinental hotel in the city on Tuesday.
He said has a potential to 1.5 trillion cubic feet of gas to add the current assets.
Prime Minster's energy advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Petrobangla Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and Chevron Bangladesh's managing director Eric Walker also addressed the function.
Chevron is now producing about 1481.3 million cubic gas par day (mmcfd) from three gas fields of Bibiyana, Jalalabad and Moulvibazar which is about 60 percent of the total country's gas production
The new extended area will be drilled under the same production sharing contract (PSC) now applicable for the three gas fields. Dr Tawfiq Elahi Chowdhury urged the Chevron to participate in the coming bidding round for offshore areas of the country.
"We want our partnership with American company to continue", he said.
Eric Walker said Chevron has been supplying gas for the country with safety and reliability.
"We want partnership to continue with Bangladesh for its development as the country made excellent economic growth".
