Chevron Bangladesh has recently donated sewing machines to a girls' orphanage on the premises of the Raynagar Shishu Poribar (Girls) in Sylhet, said a press release.
Chevron Bangladesh Director (Health, Environment and Safety) Andrina Meier handed over the sewing machines to six girls on the eve of their departure from the institution at a ceremony in Sylhet recently.
Also present in the handing over ceremony were local city councileor ABM Zillur Rahman as the special guest and supervisor of the institution Shuchita along with its teachers and students.
Chevron's Community Engagement Officer Badar Badruddoza conducted the ceremony.
The Chevron director said, "I am quite moved by the girls' dedication and focus. It is my hope that with the gift of a sewing machine for each of these girls, their dream of becoming self-sufficient will be realised and in turn they may help other children of the orphanage in fulfilling their dreams".
In addition to the CVX-donated sewing machines, the director personally donated a pair of scissors for each girl along with enough materials for each girl to make a "salwar-kameez" and multiple spools of thread to support them in starting their journey towards self-reliance.
Mr Zillur Rahman thanked Chevron for its support and anticipated for similar assistance in future as well.
