Chevron launches empowerment prog

Chevron Bangladesh, in collaboration with two local NGOs -- Bangladesh Development Service Center (BDSC) and Volunteers Association for Bangladesh (VAB) - on Tuesday launched a comprehensive empowerment programme for school students near its three gas fields in greater Sylhet. BDSC will implement the programme at Bibiyana and Jalalabad gas fields, while VAB will oversee the initiative for Moulvibazar. Under the programme, 3,600 scholarships will be given to students, 772 teacher trainings will be conducted, remuneration support will be provided for 18 teachers and endowment funds will be set up for 14 schools. The programme also included the setting up of computer and science laboratories, and raising awareness through distribution of communication materials, sensitisation workshops, and parent-teacher meetings, according to a news agency.
