FE Report
The second phase of the Alternative Livelihood Programme (ALP), funded by Chevron Bangladesh, will take off this month to benefit over 700 more underprivileged families living near the Bibiyana gas field located in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district.
Chevron Bangladesh President Steve Wilson and Executive Director of Friends In Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) Zahin Ahmed Chowdhury signed an agreement in this connection recently.
Chevron launched the ALP in the Bibiyana area in 2006 in partnership with FIVDB, a national NGO working in the field of social development.
Through the ALP, the oil giant has been effectively providing assistance to some 600 underprivileged families with an aim to increase their life skills through training, adult functional literacy and awareness building. Chevron is now transferring assets to the project participants after necessary training to spur the growth of small businesses and farms.
Chevron Bangladesh decided to provide support to more families in the next phase. About Tk 7.6 million will be spent in the next 12 months, in addition to some Tk 4.0 million spent in the first phase.
