Chevron observes launching of non-formal pry edn programme

Chevron Bangladesh, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, observed the second year of launching of its non-formal primary education programme at a simple ceremony Sunday.
Chevron's non-formal primary education programme, managed by Save the Children, works to ensure basic education competencies for poor and vulnerable children in the neighboring community of Bibiyana Gas Field.
Steve Wilson, president of Chevron Bangladesh, Kelland Stevenson, country director of partner NGO-Save the Children, the USA, Margarita Clark, deputy country director-programmes of Save the Children, Gazi Md Shahnawaz, renowned personality of Bahubol and Nabiganj areas, Naser Ahmed, director of external affairs, Chevron Bangladesh, and officials of Chevron and Save the Children were present at the event.
With the support of Chevron Bangladesh, a total of 422 learners from the local community successfully completed grade I and II and enrolled themselves in grade-III in 14 schools and 352 learners successfully completed grade-I and enrolled themselves in grade-II in 12 schools.
Besides, 750 parents received education and attended awareness programmes on improvement of children's education and health and nutrition of their entire household.
The community also provided 26 class rooms with access to water and sanitation, according to a press release.
