Chevron supports two 'Smiling Sun' clinics in Habiganj

Chevron Bangladesh (CB) President Steve Wilson recently handed over a cheque amounting to Tk 19,60,000 to Sylhet Samaj Kalyan Sangstha (SSKS) General Secretary Md Belal Ahmed for construction of two permanent 'Smiling Sun' medical clinics in Habiganj.
The clinics will offer healthcare services to the people living in two unions - Inatganj and Dighalbak - near the Bibiyana gas-field in Nabiganj upazila under Habiganj district. Land for the clinics has been donated by the members of the respective communities.
Earlier, a Chevron-supported 'Smiling Sun' clinic provided healthcare services to around 6,000 people from rented premises from May, 2005.
Among others, NSDP Chief of Party Robert J Timmons, CB External Affairs Director Naser Ahmed and USAID-Dhaka Officer (Population, Health and Nutrition) Mary Lynn McKeon along with other officials of the respective organisations were also present in the cheque handover ceremony.
Chevron has also established another 'Smiling Sun' clinic near the Moulavibazar gas-field at Kalapur of Sreemongol upazila under Moulavibazar.
The Chevron-funded 'Smiling Sun' clinics are established as part of a wide network of 318 permanent and 8,212 satellite clinics across the country, operated under a USAID-supported health care programme.
