JU CORRESPONDENT | Thursday, 18 January 2024

Samajtantrik Chhatra Front has launched a signature collection programme in Jahangirnagar University (JU) to press home their demand for cancellation of the National Curriculum 2021.
Organised by the JU unit of the front, the programme started in front of the New Arts Building on the JU campus on Wednesday. Professor Raihan Rhine of the Department of Philosophy inaugurated the programme.
Sojib Ahmed Zenich, an organiser of the front, and Rafikuzzaman Farid, general secretary of the front's central committee, were present at the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, they expressed concern that the National Curriculum 2021 is detrimental to a generation as it undermines knowledge, science and humanity.
Emphasising the distinction between education and mere training, they said education is essential for character development also. But this curriculum will produce only skilled and compliant workers but block the pursuit of knowledge which will make only trained animals lacking wisdom.
Highlighting the contradiction between aspiring for a smart Bangladesh and limiting the foundations of science, they remarked that the curriculum will create a mindset aligning with a fascist regime.
A large number of signatures were collected on the first day of the campaign commencing from 12 noon to 4:00 pm.
