Child daycare centre for RMG workers in N'ganj soon

Metro Group, a German company, and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) have signed an MoU to set up a child daycare centre for the garment workers in Narayanganj BSCIC area.
BKMEA President Fazlul Hoque and German Ambassador in Bangladesh Holger Michael signed the agreement at a city hotel Monday.
Mr Hoque said, "The day-care centre is a ground-breaking initiative for the apparel sector as well as the private sector. Around 60 children will be looked after in the centre and they will also get education and community-building learning facilities."
"The activities of the day-care centre will begin this July." he said while speaking at the signing ceremony.
It is a Tk 12 million project where Metro Group will finance 70 per cent and BKMEA the rest of the fund, the organisers said.
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, speaking as chief guest, called upon other companies to come forward to set up standard day-care centres for the children of their employees.
Special guest German Ambassador in Bangladesh, Holger Michael and Metro Group Vice-president (International Affairs) Anton Knijf, were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Spanish Corporation Inditex, one of the biggest fashion groups, and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) are going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon.
With a view to working for the similar interest area of Inditex and BGMEA, and to develop the congenial atmosphere for export-oriented readymade garment (RMG) industry the agreement will be signed.
A BGMEA delegation, headed by its president Abdus Salam Murshedy, will leave for Spain today (Tuesday) on invitation of Spanish Corporation Inditex, said a press release Monday.
During the visit, the delegation will meet Inditex President Amancio Ortega and Vice-president and CEO Pablo Isla and sign the agreement.
The team will comprise BGMEA Second Vice President Md Shafiullah Islam (Mohiuddin), its Vice-president Faroque Hasan, Vice-president (Finance) Md Siddiqur Rahman, and former director SM Mannan (Kochi) and Inditex Bangladesh director (CSR) Rezaul Karim.
