The incident occurred in the Kaimmyarghona area of South Mithachari Union on the Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Arakan Road around 9:30am on Thursday, according to DC Mohammad Salahuddin.
The deceased was identified as 2-year-old Mohammad Tanzim, the son of Mohammad Shaheen from Sader Para in the union.
The child's mother, 32-year-old Rubina Akhtar, and the motorcycle driver were injured in the accident. The driver's name and identity have yet to be confirmed.
The DC said he had been taking his car to Ukhiya in the morning for administrative work when it crashed into a motorcycle speeding in the opposite direction.
"The motorcycle was battered and thrown onto a passing mother and her son. The mother and son were injured in the accident," DC Salahuddin said.
"I got out of the car and rescued them with the help of locals. We then rushed them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. The doctor at the hospital declared the child dead."
"The motorcycle involved in the accident was to the right of our car. But, suddenly, the motorcycle swerved to the left at reckless speed, colliding with our car. This is what led to the unfortunate incident."
