Child heart disease confce kicks off today to focus on MDG-4

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to open an international conference on child heart ailment at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city today (Saturday), reports BSS.
The main objective is to focus more on ensuring child survival in achieving millennium development goal (MDG)-4.
Pediatric Cardiac Society of Bangladesh (PCSB), the organiser of the three-day event, said an estimated 30,000 children born each year in Bangladesh with congenital heart diseases, 90 per cent of them die, mainly due to low level of awareness among doctors and parents as well as lack of proper treatment in Bangladesh.
The conference, first of its kind in Bangladesh, is expected to bring together 650 pediatricians and cardiologists from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India and China to discuss the existing treatment practices, innovations in the filed over the last few years.
