Child labour
Sunday, 7 May 2017
CHILD labour interferes with the children's ability to attend regular school, and is considered exploitative by many international scholars and organisations. According to them, it deprives children of their childhood, their potential and dignity, and is harmful for their physical and mental development. Children are the future of any country. If we nurture our children properly, they will grow up as valuable assets for the country. But sadly, in many countries of the world children are engaged as workers for different jobs. It has been going on for long and now child labour is a burning issue of our time. Even if there are several legislations to protect children from being used as labour, there are still many children in our country who are being used as labourers. The families of the children can not afford to send them to schools and as such they are left with no other choice but to work as child labour. They work as helpers in grocery shops, tea stalls, bus and other public vehicles and so on and so forth. They are rarely seen with a smile on their faces. Government and many NGOs are working to bring down the number of child labour in the country. But the desired result is yet to be achieved.
Childhood is the time for children to go to school and study. The government should give more emphasis to protect these children and ensure their education. We must create an environment so that the children are encouraged to pursue studies and their parents attach due importance to their education.
