Child labour elimination

Tuesday, 18 September 2007

In recent days, there exists growing awareness among a section of people about the need for eliminating child labour from various sectors of the national economy. These people do feel bad for the children when they see them working instead of being at schools, because of the poverty of their parents. Some employers just out of pity try to give children less hazardous work and impart some education to them. Even they consciously try not to treat them wrongly. Despite all these efforts, the problem of child labour in our country is yet to be solved.
The problem of child labour remains a matter of serious concern not only in our country but also in many other countries. As the number of people who are kind to children working at home and in other places is not that large in our country, we cannot expect any desirable change in the situation. We know that most poor parents in our country send their children to work to help augment their income to survive. The poor parents are also left with no option but to depend on the earning of their minor sons or daughters.
Under the circumstances, it is necessary to implement a realistic plan to help reduce poverty. Until that is done, there will be problem of child labour. But in the meantime, there should be a programme to raise the level of awareness among the people to be kind to children while employing them.
