Child labourers on rise in Natore

NATORE, May 08: The number of child labourers is increasing day by day in Natore sadar, Bagatipara, Lalpur, Baraigram, Gurudaspur and Singra upazilas of the district due to poverty.
Children aged roughly between 8 and 12 years from landless, poor and distressed families go out for work everyday.
According to statistics, about 4,500 child labourers are engaged in various kinds of work in different upazilas of the district.
Most of them sell a variety of commodities in trains, buses and bazars.
Some of them pull rickshaws, some work as apprentice in various workshops, restaurants and tea stalls while some others work in agricultural lands. Sometimes they work just for food.
According to some hotel and restaurant owners, these child labourers are very sincere and obedient.
