Child marriage bid foiled in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, May 23 (BSS): An incident of child marriage, a punishable offence under the law of the land, was averted Sunday at a timely interference of Nagarkanda Upazila administration. According to official sources, the marriage of Eti Akhtar (12), daughter of Mostofa Hossain Kala Mia of village Bautipara under Nagarkanda Upazila, was going to be solemnised with Isharat Khan (18), son of Yusuf Khan of village Ranpasha of the same Upazila, at bride's house Sunday. Eti is a student of Bautipara Government Primary School reading in class V. According to the sources, acting on a tip-off, UNO of Nagarkanda SM Abdul Kader secretly reached the spot along with police and journalists while marriage registrar Rezaul Karim was taking preparations for registering the forbidden act of child marriage and stopped the illegal marriage.
