Wednesday, 6 August 2014

RANGPUR, Aug 5 (BSS): Adolescent Mokmaine Akhter Mahi, 14, got a new life as her settled marriage was stopped here in the city on Monday by timely intervention of the administration.
It became possible after formation of a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate of Rangpur Israt Sabiya Sumi with the help of the district unit committee of 'Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jote.'
Parents of both sides completed preparations for holding marriage of Mahi, daughter of late Bazlur Rahman with Khadimul Islam, 16, son of Mohubar Rahman of Uttam Chawrapara area in the city and their relatives already started reaching there.
Being informed, leaders and activists of 'Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jote' rushed to the house of Mahi to stop the marriage process.
The Jote leaders engaged their all-out efforts to convince the parents of both sides to stop the marriage through explaining its illegality, the possible and inevitable severe consequences.
But, parents of both sides were still adamant and rigid to complete marriage of Mahi with Khadimul Islam when the Jote leaders informed the matter to the administration.
However, parents of both sides paid the fine to avoid the jail term and committed not to marry their children until they attain their matured ages.
