Child policy-1994 to be modernised

Work on modernising the country's Child Policy-1994 is underway and it would likely be declared by end of next month, secretary in-charge of the Ministry of Children and Women Affairs said Thursday, reports BSS.
The secretary in-charge made the disclosure while speaking at the inaugural session of a consultation on 'Developing a National Strategy on Prevention of Violence Against Children' in the city.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, UNICEF Bangladesh and Save the Children Sweden-Denmark (SCSD) jointly organised the national consultation in cooperation with Working Group for Creating Protective Environment for Children (WGCPEC).
Project Director of Empowerment and Protection of Children (EPC) of the ministry Dr Nomita Halder chaired the session while Country Representative of UNICEF Bangladesh Carel de Rooy, Country Representative of the SCSD Niels Bentzen and Chief of Child Protection of UNICEF Rose-Anne Paparevo addressed it as special guests.
Deputy Country Representative of SCSD Shamsul Alam gave the welcome speech while Programme Coordinator of Child Protection unit of the SCSD shared their views about the picture of violence against children across the country.
Over 100 children from the country's different parts joined the consultation, first of its kind.
