The way the number of cardiac patients is increasing in the world, including Bangladesh, the World Health Organisation apprehends that heart diseases will be epidemic in the next 10-15 years and calls for immediate measures to control them.
Heart specialists disclosed this Friday at the inaugural function of Quantum Heart Club at National Press Club, saying more than 1.5 million (15 lakh) people die of cardiac arrest everyday.
They said the diseases are preventable and controllable only by changing lifestyle, adopting proper food habit and overcoming stress.

Director General (DG) of Quantum Foundation Nahar Al Bokhari chaired the function where Dr Ahmad Murtaza Chowdhury of Mymensingh Medical College presented the keynote paper.
The national professor expressed worries about the possibility of increasing cardiac diseases among children in the next 10 to 15 years and said these non-viral diseases have been spreading in the world due to wrong lifestyle.
"Our children do not walk sufficiently. They eat fast food and live in stressful life with study, coaching etc," he said adding "Treatment is not the only solution. We must try to take measures so that we may not have to suffer from the disease."
The former BSMMU VC said cardiac diseases have been spreading not only among the rich but also among the poor which shows that its spread is not related to food habit only.
The keynote speaker highlighted studies to prevent and control heart diseases with the help of meditation and medication and said it is now proved that change in lifestyle with right views can help people to get out of stress and heart diseases.
