Child\\\'s body found inside drum, stepmother arrested

Police have arrested a woman for allegedly killing her six-year-old stepdaughter at Jatrabarhi in capital Dhaka. Jatrabarhi Police Station OC Abani Shankar Kar told bdnews24.com they recovered the body of 'Maimuna' on Friday morning from a drum inside a flat's toilet at Dhalpur. "The child's left wrist was found to have been broken," he said. The child's father Abdur Razzak works as a WASA storekeeper. He lived in that building's third floor apartment with his mother 'Fulmoti', 60, second wife Sumaiya Islam Sharmin, daughter Maimuna and another three-month-old child. The OC said Razzak left for his village home in Madaripur on Thursday. Quoting family members, he said, Maimuna usually slept with her grandmother, but Sharmin insisted on having the girl sleep with her last night. Fulmoti found her granddaughter inside the drum when she went to the toilet in the early hours. Hearing her screams, her neighbours called police right away. The law enforcers later recovered body.
