Chili cultivation gaining popularity in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, May 18 (BSS): Chili cultivation is gaining popularity in Thakurgaon district.
A farmer of Chandipur village under Gareya Union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila Ibrahim Khalil cultivated chili on 10 acres of land during the current season.
He took lease of 10 acres of land from Thakurgaon sugar mills at the rate of Tk 2,000 per acre. Ibrahim Khalil said that to cultivate chili he had to spent Tk 6 lakh throughout the season.
Now harvesting of chili is going on in full swing. Twenty-five female workers have been harvesting chili.Mr Khalil hoped that he would earn a net profit of Tk 4 lakh from the cultivation.
He further said that last year he had cultivated wheat and maize on the same land and earned a good amount of profit.
