RAJSHAHI, Dec 29 (BSS): The daylong cold weather coupled with chilly wind hampered the normal life in the city and its adjoining areas Tuesday.
Local Met office recorded the season's lowest minimum temperature at 6.1 degrees Celsius here this morning against the day's highest temperature of 23 degrees.
According to the concerned sources, the bad atmospheric condition barred people from going outside of residence throughout the day along with creating negative impact on all forms of normal life.
As the severity of the biting cold further increased during the last couple of days, hundreds of people of all ages were forced to stay indoors until late morning and farm, businesses and normal activities were affected everywhere.
The overall cold wave situation deteriorated further in the region with the dipping of maximum temperature almost everywhere in the region during the past 24 hours.
The sky remained covered with cloud that continued almost throughout the day.
The vehicular traffic on roads and highways, plying of trains and water vessels remained almost normal since this morning though the vehicles plied with headlights on to avert accidents until 9:00 am.
The residents of the sandy char areas on the river basins are the worst affected as the speed of blowing cooler winds is much higher in those areas.
Meanwhile, the number of patients suffering from pneumonia, asthma and respiratory complications increased in all the primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals with intensity of cold, hospital sources said.
