BEIJING, Nov 29 (AFP): China's foreign exchange reserves, already the world's largest, reached 1.455 trillion dollars at the end of October, a senior official said today.
The figure was given by Zhang Xiaoqiang, vice-director of the National Development and Reform Commission, China's leading economic planning agency, on the sidelines of a conference in Beijing.
It was up from slightly more than 1.43 trillion dollars a month earlier. China's trade surplus, the main factor behind the rising forex reserves, hit a record of 27.1 billion dollars in October.
China's forex reserves overtook Japan's to become the biggest in the world in early 2006.
