Tuesday, 21 April 2009

China Monday offered its improved technology for power generation, better use of energy and production of hydro and solar energy to overcome the mounting electricity crisis facing by Bangladesh, reports UNB.
"Bangladesh is facing various challenges and we want to support our friend…We want to see Bangladesh achieving prosperity and improving the living standard of its people," new Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zianyi told reporters after nearly an hour-long meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni.
The Ambassador said he would encourage Chinese businessmen and entrepreneurs to come to Bangladesh and explore potential fields for investment.
Asked if they discussed the proposed nuclear power plant in Bangladesh, he said the issue was not raised today but China is positive in extending assistance to Bangladesh in this regard.
He said there is a good sign that last year's volume of bilateral trade has doubled. He hoped Bangladesh would send business teams to Canton and Kunming fairs, and exhibit Bangladeshi products to make those familiar with Chinese companies and consumers.
On cooperation in education and cultural fields, the Ambassador said presently 70 Bangladeshi students are studying in China and the number would increase to 100 next year.
He underscored the need for exchange of cultural groups between the two countries and increasing people-to-people contact. The envoy said direct airlines between the two countries help tourists visit each others' countries.
The Ambassador expressed satisfaction over the existing excellent relations between Dhaka and Beijing, and hoped that the comprehensive cooperation and partnership between the two countries will enhance to a new height during his tenure.
