China promises good early rice harvest

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua): The latest information provided by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture shows that China now promises a good early rice harvest, and a fine foundation to autumn grain production, so the full year grain production will continue to maintain a fine development trend.
It is another good news after the bump harvest of summer grain.
China has so far basically concluded the early rice harvest, with more than 95 per cent of early rice in major early rice- planting areas completed, said an official in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture recently.
According to statistics of MOA, China had harvested more than 5.6 million hectares of early rice by July 31, despite of too many precipitations some early rice-growing areas since July.
China's summer grain production totaled 120.4 billion kilograms this year, posting an increase of 3.05 billion kilograms or 2.6 per cent over last year. It is the first time for China to achieve an increase in grain production for five consecutive years.
