China shares rise

Chinese stocks were higher in morning trade on Tuesday following a holiday, after data showed manufacturing activity strengthened to a five-month high in May, dealers said. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.26 per cent, or 5.36 points, to 2,044.57. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, gained 0.25 per cent, or 2.62 points, to 1,056.37. China’s financial markets were closed on Monday, according to AFP.
