China shocked at loss of lives in BDR mutiny

China has expressed its deep shock at the loss of lives in mutiny at BDR Headquarters, reports UNB.

"We would like to extend deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of the incident," Foreign Office quoted a spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry to have said in a statement.

The spokesman said, "As a friendly close neighbour, the Chinese side expressed the hope Bangladesh enjoy political stability, economic development and social harmony."

The spokesman hoped that with the joint efforts of government and people, Bangladesh could maintain peace, stability and solidarity.

Bangladesh Embassy

BSS adds: Bangladesh Embassy in Washington held a condolence meeting on Tuesday to remember the slain army officers who were brutally killed in a BDR mutiny at Pilkhana last week.

The meeting, presided over by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA M Humayun Kabir, was attended by officials and employees of the embassy, a press release said in the city Thursday.

Condemning the barbaric killings in BDR Headquarters, the speakers said the nation has lost brilliant and promising army officers in the BDR rebellion.

Launching a probe committee by the government for finding out the causes of the carnage, they expressed the hope that proper punishment would be given to the responsible persons by identifying them.

Ambassador Kabir said the image of Bangladesh has been destroyed internationally by heinous killings in BDR Headquarters.

He prayed for peace of the departed souls of army officers and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.

Earlier, a three-day national mourning was observed in the embassy by hoisting national flag at half mast. The embassy also opened a condolence book in the chancery.

BSS adds from Gaibandha: Speakers at a meeting in Gaibandha Wednesday strongly condemned the barbaric killings at BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in Dhaka.

Terming the killing of army officers an irreparable loss to the nation, they demanded proper investigation into the killings and trial of those responsible for the heinous incident.

They also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed souls.

Organised by the district committee of Nagarik Samaj the meeting was presided over by Shahnewaz Tuku. It was addressed, among others, by vice president of district Awami League Sadrul Kabir Angur, general secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, district NAP president Lutfor Rahman Ranju, cultural personality Jahurul Islam Swapan and professor Jahurul Kaiyum.

Later, a doa mahfil was held and a one-minute silence observed to pay homage to the slain army officers.

Gaibandha Govt

Women's College

Besides, teachers and employees of Gaibandha Govt Women's College have expressed their profound shock and heartfelt condolences at the killing of army officers at BDR Headquarters.

They called for a proper investigation to find out the masterminds behind the BDR mutiny and demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.

They expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members and prayed for the peace of the departed souls, said a press release issued by professor Atiqa Banu, principal of the college.

Views-exchange meeting

A views-exchange meeting on 'Operation Rebel Hunt' with local journalists was held in Barisal Thursday in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district.

Colonel Rashid and Major Abul Kalam Azad, among others, addressed the meeting organised by Barisal Army Cell. A large number of local journalists of both the printing and electronic media attended it.
