China stocks stumble at opening

Monday, 5 May 2014

Chinese stocks fell in morning trade on Monday after data showed manufacturing activity contracted more than first thought in April, while dealers are also worried a new wave of initial public offerings will cause a share glut. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.30 per cent, or 6.10 points, to 2,020.26. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, slipped 0.25%, or 2.62 points, to 1,024.96, according to AFP.
