China is keen to provide further support and cooperation to the country's military sector, especially for the development of Bangladesh Navy.
The keenness was conveyed when a delegation from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, led by Rear Admiral Wang Zhiguo, called on President M Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban Thursday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, the Chinese delegation mentioned Bangladesh's important geographical position in South Asia.
"China expects development of Bangladesh for its own development," said Rear Admiral Wang.
He said China is interested to provide military assistance to Bangladesh, especially to the Navy.
Welcoming the delegation, President Zillur Rahman said China is a tested friend of Bangladesh.
He recalled that after the liberation war, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had expressed the willingness to visit China first.
Describing the tremendous economic growth of China as a miracle, the President mentioned that the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of China is increasing rapidly and very soon China is going to be a super economic power.
"We need more and more cooperation from China," he said.
He thanked the Chinese delegation for expressing their interest to provide military assistance to Bangladesh and sought further Chinese cooperation in the future.
Mentioning the recent visit of Chinese Vice President to Bangladesh and the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to China, the President expressed the hope that these visits would further strengthen bilateral ties.
He thanked the delegation for arranging the visit of PLA Navy Hospital 'Ark Peace' to Bangladesh as a symbol of historic friendship and commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
